About Invermere Companion Animal Network (ICAN)

The Invermere Companion Animal Network (ICAN) is a registered non-profit, no-kill, no-cage animal rescue and adoption facility located in Invermere, BC.
Since 2007, we’ve proudly served the Columbia Valley—from Canal Flats to Spillimacheen—helping animals in need find safety, care, and loving forever homes.

Our Mission
At ICAN, our mission is simple: Advocate. Educate. Provide.
We advocate for the welfare of companion animals, educate our community on responsible pet ownership, and provide a safe, compassionate haven for animals in need.
Every life matters, and every rescue deserves a second chance. Our shelter provides a calm, cage-free environment where animals can relax, recover, and build trust while waiting for adoption.
Through our Advocate. Educate. Provide. approach, we not only care for animals in need but also work to build a more compassionate community for all.
Who We Are
Aside from one part-time administrator, ICAN is powered almost entirely by volunteers—caring individuals who give their time, skills, and hearts to the animals every single day.
From feeding and cleaning to socializing shy cats and comforting kittens fresh from rescue, our volunteers are the lifeblood of everything we do.
Behind the scenes, others handle adoption coordination, fundraising, and community outreach, all to ensure every animal receives the love and support they deserve. Whether it’s bottle-feeding an orphaned kitten, coordinating a rescue transport, or organizing donation drives, our team does it all with compassion and commitment.
Every volunteer plays a role in helping us Advocate. Educate. Provide.—and it’s through their hands and hearts that lives are truly transformed.

Our Work
Most of our rescue animals come from across the Columbia Valley, but we also collaborate with our partners in Cranbrook, Creston, and Golden to give more animals a chance at a better life.
Every cat and small animal receives veterinary care, including spay or neuter, vaccinations, and any specialized treatments they need before adoption.
When you adopt from ICAN, you’re not just welcoming a pet—you’re helping us advocate for animal welfare and provide hope for those still waiting.
Spay and Neuter Advocacy
ICAN believes that the key to ending pet overpopulation is spaying and neutering.
Every cat adopted from ICAN is fixed before going home, ensuring they won’t contribute to unwanted litters.
If you have questions about the right time to spay or neuter your pet, our team is always happy to share information and guidance.
Educate is a core part of who we are—we’re here to help our community make the best choices for their pets’ health and well-being.
